On March 1, 2012, OCUL launched its newest service, Scholars GeoPortal. We encourage all Ontario university students, staff and faculty to explore the site and use our online tools to discover the fascinating geospatial data on offer.

Background

The Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL) has launched a new geospatial and health informatics storage and data discovery tool that, along with the social science data delivery system <odesi> , provides a portal to Ontario researchers to access numeric and spatial datasets.  The new service was made possible with support from the Government of Ontario through the OntarioBuys initiative.

Updates of Interest

July 5, 2012. Three Statistics Canada English Cartographic Boundary files for 2011 (Designated Place, Census Tracts, Dissemination Areas) have been temporarily pulled down from the portal due to work on the metadata record. They should be back up by the end of the week.

June 2012. The ArcGIS Online Ocean Basemap was recently updated with Canadian bathymetry data. In addition, the ArcGIS Online World Imagery Basemap was recently updated with expanded coverage of 1m resolution GeoEye IKONOS imagery for parts of Canada. These basemaps are available in Scholars GeoPortal (click Basemap to switch to the ESRI Oceans or ESRI Imagery basemap). More info Oceans More info Imagery
