Introduction
Scholars Portal employs the use of a number tools through the FITS software package to identify and validate the file formats contained within the SIP.
- the DROID tool identifies formats during the SIP ingestion process where a file format is associated with each file
- JHOVE is a tool used to further format-specific identification, validation and characterization of the file
- when a file format is identified, where possible, the file is linked to the format's entry in PRONOM, the British National Archive's format registry.
