5.1.1.3 - The repository shall have effective mechanisms to detect bit corruption or loss.
Introduction
Scholars Portal is committed to processes and tools that support the long-term integrity and reliability of content. To that end, the repository carries out regular, automated fixity checks on archived files by comparing freshly generated checksum values with archived values. In addition, the repository's Pillar storage array has a range of self-diagnostic tools that will notify staff about certain kinds of errors.
The complete text of the Fixity Check Procedures is available below.
The Risk Analysis and Management document, available below, contains information about the storage array's self-diagnostic technologies.

Potential Risks
Scholars Portal is generating checksum values for content that was ingested before the repository adopted its fixity checking procedure. Until this process is complete, some files are not candidates for regular fixity checking.
As Scholars Portal adds more data, the fixity checking process takes longer to test the repository's entire body of information. Scholars Portal will monitor the situation and, if necessary, revise its practices.
Monitoring Commitments
Scholars Portal operates a rolling test of checksum values for all journal content. Fixity checks that produce a mismatch are automatically reported to the repository's issue tracking system.
