Scholars Portal Dataverse is upgraded 2-3 times per year. Each release includes code from the Harvard Dataverse project, as well as customized code from Scholars Portal. Platform functionality is tested by team members before each release. The user community, made up of administrators from subscribing institutions, is also invited for additional manual testing before each release.
Release notes are shared with the community via an email list for each upgrade. Release notes from Harvard Dataverse are available from https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/releases.
Third-party libraries used by Scholars Portal Dataverse follow the versions used by the core Harvard IQSS project.
In addition to the Harvard Dataverse software, Scholars Portal develops external applications that connect to Dataverse. These include:
- The Data Explorer: https://github.com/scholarsportal/Dataverse-Data-Explorer
- The Data Curation Tool: https://github.com/scholarsportal/Dataverse-Data-Curation-Tool
- A metrics dashboard: https://github.com/scholarsportal/Dataverse-Web-Report
Third-party libraries for connected applications are locked to specific versions. Packages are upgraded periodically when security patches are released.
