Objectives

To investigate improved interface for RACER and integration with SFX.

Progress

Racer Top 5 were collected and reported based on PSWG members' library staff feedback:

1.  Blank request form -- this needs to be more visible.  Some sites suggest this as the default page in RACER or to have only 2 links as the default page, one going to search RACER union catalogues and one to make a blank request (after logging in).

2.  Location and availability statements are confusing to students as they think they need to find an available location for their item.  If this perception could be minimized by any customizations to the interface, that would be great.

3.  The RACER password situation.  Some sites recommend making RACER Shibboleth compliant, others that the password should be easier to get.

4. The Unique identifier (ISBN/ISSN) should be emphasized as a required field.

5. The default search screen should be the advanced search screen.  This was suggested as a way to control against huge result sets for generic title searches, i.e "science".
An additional suggestion was to create links from Scholars Portal search to autopopulate request forms in RACER.
