PSAG Conference Call, May 2

Agenda and Resulting Actions:

1.       Progress on each of our subgroups:
 
a.       User panel (Kate, Martha) - When UofT system under development is ready in June, we'll adopt.

b.      Discovery Tools (Martha, Valerie, Stacy, Kate, Jim away) - Martha or Jim poll schools to learn of any explorations of federated search tools happening, and develop info sharing on wiki; Martha post 2005 user study from Scholars Portal Search Working Group; Martha send SFX stats to whole PSAG for analyzing the sources from which people enter SFX; exploration of Mark Logic as an interface might provide a good alternative search option -- see Scholars Portage subgroup page

c.       RACER (Dana, Valerie) - relation between PSAG and ILL groups to be determined; May 12 deadline for enhancement requests doesn't allow time for real usability testing, but PSAG members will poll their own libraries for top 5 changes wanted in the user interface and send them to Dana by May 7

d.      RefWorks (Dana, Mita, Stacy, Heather/Jim away) - a variety of topics are defined and getting under way -- see subgroup page

e.      Scholars Portage (Mita, Stacy) - opportunity to use MarkLogic to explore a variety of portage routes to data in the Scholars Portal archive and to use the social networking power of the 300,000 FTE users across OCUL; want to know what users want to do; work on the MarkLogic interface is just under way, so timing is good

f.        SFX Tuning (Dana, Kate) - see the subgroup page for many useful topics relating to the RACER implementation, direct linking, etc.  Dana will alert OCUL-SFX group to look at the page and provide input (In general, all subgroups make a habit of sending emails to appropriate OCUL groups to provide information and solicit input on our various initiatives.)

2.       Update from e-books working group (Mita) - group meeting and 2 vendor demos tomorrow... stay tuned.
